Another dud of system

Good evening bloggers,

I got the day off and watching this weak and disorganized weather system move across today has been just another disappointment. The final band of showers is moving across between now and 8 PM with some snowflakes being reported up north. We will see if any mix in as this passes through Kansas City. Jeff Penner and George Waldenberger are tracking these developments on NBC Action News.  The same thing that has happened with the very few other systems we have seen this winter is happening again right now. Watch this band expand and increase as it moves  east of the state line.  It may very well changeover to snow, as shown on the earlier map I posted this morning, but again well east of Kansas City.

Have a great evening and weekend.

Gary

You may have been surprised. I wasn’t.

    I told you all!!!

Hey Mower: Now you say look out for a drought? Thought you said the drought was over? Which is it?

  • beckarelli

If we know the weather is not going to pan out then why even say a dusting to an inch. All it does is get everyone worried about the ride home. Just plain ignorant

    • Brett Budach

If you are referring to the weather team, your use of “ignorant” is nothing short of incorrect. Not to mention, a dusting to an inch shouldn’t get everyone worried about rides home, especially with these marginal temperatures. sheesh

Flakes mixing in with rain at I-29/Barry Rd. 38 degrees.

This winter has been freakin’ sweet so far, another day bites the dust. As far as a possible “wintry change in the next 7-10 days” how many times have I heard that in the last two months? I’ll believe it when I see it, and even if it does happen it’ll be weak and shortlived. Rock on zonal flow!

    • Henley

I’m with ya dude, I’m liking this winter though a little concerned about the dry conditions

    • Jim

I like snow but I’m not heartbroken when we don’t see any. But I’m with Henley about the dry conditions. Ignoring the snow aspect, Gary, what does the precipitation situation look like?

  • snowyman

Why do the anchors have paper? I thought they had ipads or something like that. Guess they had to sell them to help pay Gary’s salary. No snow again. Will the snowflake contest end? Why don’t you quit asking the question because it aint going to snow no matter how much Gary wishcast’s for it. What a joke. Mowermike is just a blowhard who knows nothing that I can tell. What a sucky winter.

Heavy dusting of wet snow in St. Joe. Now on to the wait for the next cold front and little dusting. Bring on Srping already, this Winter sucks. I’m ready for severe storms lol

Interesting tidbit to chew on: The 7-10 day forecast for Anchorage, Alaska has highs in the 20s and 30s and lows in the teens for days 8 thru 10. That’s balmy by Alaska standards. Our average high is around 45 by mid February which is just a little over 2 weeks away…. Awesome!

    • RickMckc

If that forecast verfies in Anchorage it’s a good bet that there will be arctic air in KC around the same time frame.

Some of you really don’t like Gary and I’m not quite sure why… You hate snow, yet you bash Gary when we don’t get snow??? What is with you people? I’m talking about a select few(or maybe the same person using multiple names) when I say this. I understand Gary said there could be a CHANCE of snow and a slushy inch isn’t out of the question.. You must realize the “viewing area” is rather large and doesn’t mean your particular backyard. Up north they did get some snow as the bloggers that live up there have stated. Try to enjoy this blog instead of constantly getting on here to try and prove Gary and the team wrong. Like red said sit back, grab a cold one and enjoy not having to shovel the driveway!!

McCabe58, I’m just extremely happy with the nice mild winter so far, looking forward to more golf in February! Emaw

    (Standup routine underway…)

Folks, this winter has been so snowless that….wait for it….the GFS never even shows any FANTASY storms!

    (…thunderous laughter then applause!)

  • f00dl3

It’s actually kind of unreal – it’s been so mild that I have been able to keep doing one long 11-13 mile run every week so far this winter thanks to the extremely mild temperatures, and a bit of knowledge about proper layering.

The coldest run so far I have done was a 7.2 mile run a few weeks ago when it was 12 degrees outside. Only problem I had was my water bottle kept flash freezing on me.

…And the beat goes on… Yeah, the beat goes on. Lah-dee dahdee dee, lahdee dahdee da… Sonny & Cher must’ve wrote that song during a winter similar to this one. I’m loving it! I have never golfed in January until this year and I’m going again Monday. I would love to add February to that list! Winter 2011/2012, keep on keeping on!

This weather is truly depressing. I appreciate the good weather but a little snow would be fantastic! We throw open the shutters in the family room, crank up the fireplace and watch the snow pile up on the patio. And we miss feeding the birds on the snow.
But, I keep reminding myself, KCs biggest snowstorm happened in March.

  • lawnman

Will we ever get snow? The million dollar question……

  • redavis

Changeover to all snow in Ashland, MO as of 8:30 PM with light to moderate snow falling but melting on ground contact with temperature at 34 degrees.

Big storm showing up for next weekend, see link below from accuweather.com written by expert senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski. Local forecast is showing a high in the lower 30′s with snow Saturday & Saturday night for KC & Columbia, MO. Maybe the snowflake contest will end next weekend. Something for us to watch as a storm is expected to track to the south of us. Let’s hope it all comes together & we finally get some snowfall.

This winter has been OUTSTANDING !!! I would love it to continue and for all u snow lovers and snow beggars, hop on a mail truck and travel to zip code 99501. Sure u will be happy then.

  • StormyWX

I bet you next winter will be BITTERLY COLD AND SNOWY due to the LACK of a winter this year!!!!

Who wants to be me on that? :)

  • Kole Christian

It does seem like some bloggers believe everyone one lives on the south side of the city. Those same bloggers then think because they’re the only ones that matter than KC as a whole should take measurements on the south side. There’s nothing wrong with KCI doing offical reports for the city. Since most people dont live downtown it gives a more accurate reading.

I wouldn’t believe an ounce of what Accuweather bloggers have to say about the weather. They are about as full of propaganda as The Weather (sensationalism) Channel.

TWC lost all credibility to me when they started having pop-up ads on their website, and it only got worse when they are doing this stupid what’s happening on Twitter weather crap.

Accuweather blogs are no better – they seem to hype everything up out of control. I almost blame them (partially TWC as well) for starting that silly snopocolypse term last year. Yes that was a major blizzard, but it wasn’t the end of the world, and blizzards do happen every so often. Dubbing it snopocolypse is just completely unprofessional, immature, and stirring up the pot to justify hyping it out of control.
