Snow is possible Friday!

Good evening bloggers,

9 PM UPDATE:

The new NAM has come out and it continues a trend of showing less precipitation and warmer surface temperatures.  This means Friday afternoon may see a band of rain showers with mixed snow and no accumulation.  Total liquid may be around .10″.  Now that being said, it is the end of January and we still have to watch it closely.  But, there is a trend.

I am filling in for Gary tonight at 10 PM and I will have a new Powercast.

Have a great night!

Jeff

Is it possible?  I will add more thoughts soon. I just talked with 400 kids at Brookwood Elementary school in Leawood, KS.   The kids were awesome.

Here is the latest NAM model simulated reflectivity valid at 3 PM Friday:

Once again, the above map is the simulated radar reflectivity valid at 3 PM Friday. Below, you can see one of our Powercasts showing the 5 PM precipitation and type forecast. The green is rain, and the blue to pink is snow to heavy snow.  How organized will this really be? What will the temperatures be? I will be going over this tonight at 4:30, 5, and 6 PM:

Now, slightly weaker and guess what happens?  If it is just slightly weaker this will be a band of rain and possibly snow showers mixed with sleet and no accumulation.  Now just slightly stronger…..then we could have an inch of snow. The NAM is by far the strongest and it doesn’t even quite have an inch near KC.  Have a nice evening!  Oh, there are two people that picked tomorrow in the Snowflake contest. After tomorrow we get down to the final dozen.

Gary

  • Oh man I bet those kids were loving anything to do with a possible snow chance even if it doesn’t make for a snow day. Lift their spirits up for it! LOL….Man….what a nice day today too…Kids in my building are playin’ hard out there on the playground equipment.

    thanks Gary,

Come on snow!!!!Don’t let us down

Gary…don’t let the wishcasting get the better of you!!!!

How many snows has the NAM predicted for us this year? Seems like I’ve seen this movie before. And we know how it turns out.

  • Jerry

Looks like more of a light rain event to me.

Gonna be all rain…. No one get your hopes up. Doesn’t look to be that much precip either. This lame “winter” continues…

  • StormyWX

Well then by the looks of THOSE maps (and especially Powercast), it’ll be more of a rain event for the immediate city metro area, nothing for pretty much everywhere south of KCK or the dead middle of the interstate loop, and actually more of a snow even everywhere northeast of the loop, but really every thing more north and northeast of Richmond.

Apart from my rambling, I really feel as if this will be another NON-weather even for the city!

Walking the dog today I heard a buzz behind me, thought it was a horse fly turned around and it was a bee checking me out… IN LATE JANUARY, that is just sad. Well we will see about tomorrow, if the AO going negative doesn’t help us out then forget about it.

A one-legged elf skipping over a rainbow in a thunderstorm is POSSIBLE tomorrow!

I’m very confident that my snow shovel is going to stay in the basement where it has been all winter.

We will get nothing tomorrow. Wish we were

Lol I’ve all but given up this winter r-dub. Anything we get from here on out is just gonna be a surprise to me. What’s up with NBC right now? The picture looks terrible, kind of a fuzzy white.. Only channel on my tv that looks this way!

  • beckarelli

    Any ideas anyone for tomorrow

  • mukustink

Snow is possible Friday! Well it’s possible space junk will fall out of the sky and hit KSHB but it’s not happening. Keep up that WISH casting! The snow flake contest will continue until next winter. Everyone enjoy the light rain tomorrow.

Looking at the latest NAM, looks like it “explodes”(if you want to call it that) just to the east of K.C. Remindes me of the “event” a few weeks ago where there was the “chance” of an inch but it didn’t really get going until it was just past K.C. So the contest will keep going… and going… and going. Is that the Energizer Bunny I see going by?

  • blizzard68

We will be lucky if we even get rain

  • McCabe58

Haha you may be onto something!! And typical of this winter this disturbance is weakening and going to be all rain here… Judging by some of your guys’ post earlier we could definitely use the rain though! Gary is there any major storms showing up for our area?

Ground temperatures are probably in the upper 30s to lower 40s thanks to great daytime heating the last 2 days. Not sure if anything that falls will stick.
